On the other hand, I’ve seen so many movies that either glorify or simplify their subjects that I worry about missing the essence of the story. However, as I watched the film with an open heart and mind, I realized how much it aligned with my values of courage, authenticity, empathy, and resilience.
The storyline revolves around the famous ocean liner RMS Queen Mary, which sailed from 1936 to 1967 with passengers ranging from celebrities to refugees. The movie focuses on a pivotal moment in the ship’s history: the outbreak of World War II in Europe in 1939. At that time, the Queen Mary was docked in New York City and had to decide whether to continue its luxury cruises or join the war effort by transporting troops and supplies across dangerous waters.
The news of this dilemma spreads quickly among various characters who have different stakes in the outcome. It’s simply listening, holding space, withholding judgment, emotionally connecting, and communicating that incredibly healing message of ‘You’re not alone.'”
